The Joe Liberman Campaign
Thursday, January 29, 2004
Hi again, the last few days of the campaign was very hectic. Monday I spent the day following Joe Lieberman city to city where he was either holding a town hall meeting or doing a main street walk. It was a long day and I did have a good time having the opportunity to visit cities in New Hampshire that wasn't Nashua or Manchester. One of the stops we made was in Dover and we had a main street walk where Senator Lieberman stopped to talk to several of the people on the street and in shops at the end of the walk he was interviewed live on CNBC that was something to see. The Senator is very quick-witted and you can't help but like him.
Tuesday was spent doing visibility at the polls all day. We would do shifts of one hour and come in and warm up. It was really very cold that day so it was very hard to do visibility because you were basically standing in one spot as people drove in to vote. I talked to many people that day who were working on different campaigns.
I do have to say that Tuesday was very sad to me because one, it was basically the end of it for me I'd be going home the next day and two, When the numbers started to come in the feeling in the office was that of disappointment. Everyone had worked so hard to get the people out to vote and you could not help but be disappointed at the results and wonder if there was anything that could have been done differently. I had gotten the chance to meet some really nice people and I couldn't help but feel that it was over. Many of the people that I had met had been working on the campaign since the summer and I wondered what they were feeling. Many did not know where they would be going next, and some were happy that it was over. The worst part was seeing the empty office, that had become a second home for some, empty and knowing that it was probably the last time I'd be in that office space. In the end all I can say is that I enjoyed every moment, yes even the cold, I meet some great people that I will hopefully keep in contact with.

Hey guys it's me again with some interesting news from the Lieberman Campaign. Yesterday some of us from class went to the Sheraton Hotel where the 100 club dinner was being held. Our professor got us tickets for free just as long as we were not having dinner. It was so awesome to be there. When we go there we had already missed Kucinich which was a disappointment. At the sametime though there was such an energy going through the building. The people who were there to show their candidates their support went all out. There were those with green tee-shirts who were supporting Dean, and there was a lot of Dean supporters there. I decided to follow the crowd and I got an excellent picture of Senator Edwards who looks just as good in person as he does on the Television. He walked right past me and I thought that was really cool. We got to see Former Governor Dean he was surrounded by people and he took some time to talk to the people that were in the overflow room. The last person we got to see was Senator Kerry, when he showed up there was much more security then when Senator Edwards came in. The police and volunteers didn't want anyone to get near him but I got a picture of him. Once he got into the room there was a huge roar from the crowd, everyone was excited. When it was time to leave we ran right into General Clark. He was so nice.... Most of us got pictures with him and when I got up to him I told him that we were from the University of South Florida and that earlier in the week we got a chance to meet his wonderful wife. He was really nice and patient with us taking pictures with everyone who asked for one. I have to admit that is going doing in my top five moments on this great trip we have been on.
Today we got to listen to a reporter from the St Petersburg Time. He talked to us about what it was like covering the campaign. He was really nice and answered our questions. When I got to the Lieberman Nashua office the Senator was about to show up and do a rally at our office it was packed full of people and it was a great feeling that I got form the crowd. It was just really cool all the reporters were there and Congressman Larson from Connecticut was also there along with some other top official from
Connecticut. Senator Lieberman announced to the crowd that the poll from CNN today showed that he had pulled ahead of both General Clark and Senator Edwards which got our crowd going crazy. It just goes to show you that there we are definitely gaining Joementum. After all of that I got interviewed by a Japanese news paper reporter. Once everything was settled down we took the time out to go canvassing in the City of Nashua. It is really cold today when I got to the office it was 2 degrees and I found out we should be expecting snow on Tuesday. We are going to be so cold by the time this whole thing ends. That's it for now. Lets go Joe! Lets go Joe!

We were so full that some people had to leave we had people standing on stair cases and in the loby of City Hall. We also had great visibility which I'm sure made the Senator feel great. The team was great and so was the organization all those phone calls that were made to get people out to meet Senator Lieberman made a great impact.

Yesterday was cool we meet Dante Scala and listen to him talk about his book and how he got started here in New Hampshire.
Yesterday I spent most of my day making phone calls at the Lieberman Nashua office. Later on we moved to the main office in Manchester where we were mailing out post cards to voters. Senator Leiberman was
interview at the office for the Today Show and that was really finding out interesting things about him.
Today is suppose to be a really busy day Sen. Lieberman going to be having a Townhall meeting and I know we are going to be doing visability outside for him. We will probably be making some more phone calls and stuff like that.

Yesterday most of the class got to go to the Palace theatre in Manchester to see General Clark speak and watch the State of the Union Address. It was nice experience to see the General discuss his policy in front of a theatre full of people and then watch our President with a crowd full of Clark supporters. I never thought I would compare this experience to a hockey game that I went to where the home crowd was telling the visiting team exactly what they thought about them. For the most part I did enjoy myself it made the State of the Union Address interesting. I had the chance to gage the mood of the masses and that made it worthwhile even if most of room were Clark supporters. In the end we got to meet Mrs. Clark and found her to be very nice. The group of got a photo with Mrs. Clark who had just gotten into town.
Tonight not much going on except many phone calls coming out ot the Sen. Lieberman Campaign office.

Today we had the opportunity to visit the Merrimack diner in Manchester. This diner is famous spot because all the Presidential candidates will stop there at one point or another. Our class today had the chance to have breakfast there and meet the Chairwoman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party Ms. Sullivan. Ms. Sullivan is an attorney by trade she has been Chairwoman for six years so this is her second Presidential race. She sees herself as a very lucky person to have the opportunity that she does. She believes that only in New Hampshire would the granddaughter of Immigrants be in the position where she gets to meet and talk to every Democratic candidate. She grew up in a Democratic house hold and has always been a Democrat. She is very passionate about what she does as Chairwoman. At breakfast today she explained that the role of the Democratic Party was to remain neutral during the primaries. They are not allowed to take sides they have to be a referee at times but they always try to remain neutral. After breakfast we all took pictures and went on to our Campaign.

Hi everyone yesterday was great day for the Joe Lieberman Campaign had a rally and it was very inspiring. Sen. Dodd from Connecticut was the one to introduce Sen. Lieberman and you could feel the energy through out the room full of Lieberman supporters. There was plenty of media out there covering the event.
Today went to Concord where we visited the New Hampshire Democratic and Republican Offices. We learn about the grass root's history of New Hampshire and what exactly these two offices do. We also went to a museum and visited the Legislative building in Concord. After getting back to the Leiberman office I got the oppertunity to go knocking on voters homes to see who they were voting for. Unfortunately most people were not home.

Hello from the Joe Lieberman campaign headquarters in Nashua, NH. This morning our class went to a diner where Joe Lieberman was going to be meeting with supports. There were many people crowded in a small diner both supporters and the press. Outside there was a great show of support cheering and signs. It was an awesome experience for me. I got to meet and talk to Sen. Lieberman along with a few of my classmates and he was a really nice guy with a sense of humor and that made it even better. Having the chance to meet the person you are supporting makes it that much more special. There is going to be a rally in Manchester tonight and I will be going out there with the rest of the group from the office to show our support. I've never been to a rally so I don't know what it is going to be like but I can't wait.

We're in Nausha at the hotel and so far the weather is not as bad as I thought it would be. It was snowing a little and now there is snow on the ground which excites many who have not had the chance to play in the snow before. On the drive to the hotel I did notice a few campaign signs but nothing major I think I was expecting to see a lot more. I guess everyone is still focused on Iowa. So far the race in Iowa is very tight and I'm wondering how close the race in New Hampshire is going to be. I don't know what I was expecting to see when we got here but so far so good.

Wow!! I can't believe it's that we leave tomorrow. I'm getting very excited about everything and truly can not wait to get to New Hampshire. I must say that I know I am going to freeze up there.
The opportunity to work on the Joe Lieberman campaign is something I am looking forward to and can't wait to start. I really don't know what to expect when we get there but I am still excited.
